The Energy and Climate Action Committee

of the Town of Chatham


ECAC charge:

To promote energy conservation and to recommend adaptation strategies that anticipate and respond to the long-range threats and effects of climate change in Chatham. ECAC seeks to lower energy usage by the Town and to promote the use of renewable energy in Chatham. A specific focus of environmental protection is on the preservation of salt marsh - to sequester carbon dioxide, to resist storm surge and to adapt to sea-level rise and flooding. ECAC will work in cooperation with other Town Boards and Committees, as well as Town employees, in carrying out its charge.


ECAC's current primary areas of activity:

* Anticipating and Mitigating Climate Change Impacts - Predicting impacts on Chatham and promoting mitigation strategies.

* Preserving Salt Marshes - Studying Chatham's salt marshes to preserve their health into the future.

* Educating Residents and Visitors - Informing Chatham residents and businesses about energy conservation, building insulation, home solar energy, electric vehicles, flooding danger, flood insurance, home insurance

* Regulating a Sustainable Environment - Chatham's bylaws and regulations to protect the environment.

* Reducing Energy Usage - How the Town is working to conserve energy and promote renewable energy.

* Protecting Groundwater - How the Town is working to preserve clean water.

* Improving Transportation Infrastructure - How the Town is working to reduce traffic that emits CO2.
