Timothy Koschmann Southern Illinois University I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Education at Southern Illinois University and a faculty member in the Problem-Based Learning Initiative. The focus of my research is on learning in collaborative settings, with a special interest in how technology might be utilized to foster such learning. I helped to organize the first international conference on computer support for collaboration and learning (CSCL '95) and was conference co-chair for CSCL '97. I edited a book on this topic (CSCL: Theory and Practice of an Emerging Paradigm, Erlbaum, 1996) and, together with Naomi Miyake and Rogers Hall, am just in the process of completing a sequel. In this workshop I would like to focus on how we can substantiate learning in settings of conjoint activity. e-mail: tkoschmann@acm.org homepage: http://edaff.siumed.edu/tk/
